Sophie Scott's work is primarily concerned with the fracturing of images. Using familiar subject matter, such as rural or alpine scenes sourced from her day-job as high country shepherd south of Queenstown, Scott works through a reductive process, searching for the point where an image forms and dissolves. Scott's stencil/painting pairings act as both precursor and residue of process, reducing a structure of voids down to what is essential, leaving a confetti of geometrics.

Scott completed her BFA at the Ilam School of Fine Arts at the University of Canterbury in 2011. She was an artist in residence at the St Mary's Art Centre in Virginia City and the Silver City Resident Artist Program both in Northern Nevada in 2015 and returned to the Silver City Residency in 2017.  Scott has exhibited in New Zealand, the USA and Australia.
