Artist notes

Catherine Bagnall grew up between the bush and the Eastern shore of the Wellington harbour in New Zealand. Her work involves the creation of clothes that have the ears, tails and fur of other-ly creatures, which she then wears on hiking trips into the forest.
These performances are archived, and a source for the narratives realised in her watercolours.
The performance works are explorations into human /non-human creaturely relationships, what happens if one dresses up as rabbit... – can one feel a bit rabbity and of course rabbits are pests here in Aotearoa. Butterfly Creek is a real place tucked in to Gollan's Valley behind Eastbourne and threaded through with trap -lines, it is also a place to dream about.

Catherine is an internationally recognised artist who teaches at the College of Creative Arts, Massey University.
